We have been sharing lots of people's stories about their experience of Arts on Prescription and I wanted to show you what we have done with all the information our students have provided us with.
We have created a short 4 page booklet showing exactly why Arts on Prescription is the best medicine.
Here is a look....
We are having these printed right now and will be sending some out to our local GP's and health professionals but what do you think?

Meet Keith...
Our next story is about Keith...
Keith 67, found that Arts on Prescription has made him more self-sufficient with the skills that he learned.
After a local search with no luck Keith finally came across the Arts on Prescription programme and was relieved to find that we ran complete beginner cooking courses.
Keith has been widowed for two years and in the past hasn’t been much of a cook as his wife was a great cook and made most of their meals. Although Keith shopped and cooked whilst his wife was ill he found this task quite difficult and has since struggled with cooking for himself.
‘Arts on Prescription was perfect, the tutor was superb with people like me that had no experience at all. The course really surprised me and gave me confidence that I didn’t realise I was lacking. I am now able to be more self-sufficient and can plan meals that are economical and easy to prepare’.
Keith described that one of his favourite parts of the course was making friendships with new people and having social interactions with people from various backgrounds and learning about different cultures.
‘I had a very good experience with Arts on Prescription and would like to volunteer in the future’.

The series continues with Sonia...
We hope you've been enjoying our series so far, our next story comes from Sonia.
Sonia 42, found that Arts on Prescription helped with her confidence and is now back into part-time employment.
Arts on Prescription was made known to Sonia through her support worker referral from Community Restart, she decided to enrol on our very popular Fused Glass course.
‘I thought Arts on Prescription was brilliant, it really helped with my confidence and meeting people. I enjoyed the course; the tutor takes you through the processes step by step making it really easy to follow. I really liked the pieces I made and still have them on display at home’.
Since Arts on Prescription Sonia has gone back in to work and is now employed as an Activities Coordinator and is enjoying working again.
We'll be adding more stories over the coming weeks so be sure to keep checking.
Thanks,
Carmela

This week we have David...
We are continuing our series of student stories and this week we meet David...
David 76, found Arts on Prescription helped him meet new people and would recommend to anyone with Depression...
After retiring from work David decided to enrol at his local college to study an AS Level in Fine Art as he'd always had an interest in the subject. However due to his wife’s ill health David took the decision to leave the course as it wasn’t a convenient time for him to be attending.
During this period he felt he had lost some of his confidence and although he had tried other arts courses in the past none were really for him.
David had depression when he came across Arts on Prescription, he decided he wanted to try art again and booked himself on to the drawing course. The tutor helped him with his confidence to get drawing again and was really pleased with the work he produced. The course helped him get out of the house and mixing with new people.
‘The course really got me going again and I would recommend it to anybody, especially those with depression’.
After Arts on Prescription David went on to join another local art class and has recently enrolled on an art programme at Burnley College.
‘Arts on Prescription was better than I expected, I had tried other courses but always came away quite frustrated. The 10 weeks I spent with Arts on Prescription really helped my confidence’.

We are currently gathering some of the stories from our past participants to share with you over the coming weeks, the first in our series comes from Tracey...
Tracey, 50 found Arts on Prescription
to be positive and have an impact on not just herself, but also her family and
friends.
She initially felt quite nervous at the prospect of joining Arts
on Prescription and attending the course alone. Tracey chose to enrol on the
Drawing for beginner’s class after changing her working hours to be able to fit
around the advertised
programme.
The course helped her develop her skills creatively and she
found the tutor really encouraging; her confidence with Drawing has improved as
a result of attending the 12 week beginner’s course.
Tracey now reads more and has taken up sewing and is still
feeling motivated and positive since the course ended. Tracey particularly
enjoyed meeting new people and saw how other students in the group developed
too, ‘we encouraged each other and helped one another other where we could as a
group’.
In her own words; “Arts on Prescription has helped me to
realise my capabilities, my family have also benefitted in turn as I am a
lot happier - it’s never too late”.

Finally we opened The Shop in Nelson and here is picture below on opening day...

There are lots of wonderful bargains to be had. Check out the facebook page for more details. https://www.facebook.com/theshopnelson
